- Player 2) There was a shortage of gold so top place winners had to settle for nickel
- Player 3) Some prankster dipped all the gold medals in liquid nickel before the Olympics started
- Player 4) Gold became out of fashion and everyone saw nickel being more valuable than gold
- Player 5) Olympics started running on the odd years also so gold was given out on the even years and nickel on the odd years
